Vulcastrat is a mineral substrate made of volcanic rock: a granular mix of lava, pumice and zeolite. The granules absorb a lot of moisture and release it gradually to the roots, while enough air remains between them. This keeps roots from becoming waterlogged without drying out quickly.
Use Vulcastrat as a complete substrate instead of potting soil, mixed with soil for a more open structure, or as a drainage layer at the bottom of a decorative pot without a hole. As a top layer it gives a neat, tidy finish, which is why Vulcastrat is widely used for office planting, in showrooms and in hospitality.
Vulcastrat does not decompose or compact and can be reused. The substrate itself contains no nutrients, so feed the plant regularly during the growing season by adding plant food to the water. Vulcastrat is available in bags of 5, 12.5 and 25 litres.
